Uncovering Tự Kỷ
Design can raise autism (tự kỷ) awareness among Vietnamese first-time parents through a simple, educational pamphlet.
- Client
Uncovering Tuky is the client behind this project, with a focus on clear and engaging communication for their audience.
- Problem
- In order to address the lack of educational and intervention resources, as well as governmental and social support for people with autism living in Vietnam, the public must first demystify cultural perceptions surrounding autism: (1) disease, (2) family problem, (3) karmic demerit. Pamphlets in the healthcare industry lack Vietnamese cultural understanding as well as accurate translation to understand autism.
- Solution
- A portable pamphlet distributed through healthcare centers by pediatricians allows for Vietnamese first-time parents to process the information on their own terms in a private manner and discuss the information with their trusted healthcare provider.
Problem
In order to address the lack of educational and intervention resources, as well as governmental and social support for people with autism living in Vietnam, the public must first demystify cultural perceptions surrounding autism: (1) disease, (2) family problem, (3) karmic demerit. Pamphlets in the healthcare industry also lack Vietnamese cultural understanding and accurate translation needed to clearly explain autism.
Process
The pamphlet simplifies complex ideas about the cultural perceptions of autism in Vietnam into a digestible format and text for Vietnamese first-time parents.
Results
The final direction pairs educational print with a QR-linked video so families with a loved one on the autism spectrum can connect with personal stories from others who share similar experiences.
